Apex & Gable Repairs

Apex and gable repairs - rebuilding, repointing and weatherproofing the exposed apex, verge and gable end of your roof.

About This Service

The apex and gable - the pointed end of the roof and the wall beneath it - take the full force of wind and rain, and problems here are a common source of leaks and loose masonry. We repair and rebuild apex and gable work across Angus, Aberdeenshire and Tayside: repointing and rebuilding the apex stonework or brickwork, renewing the verge and bargeboards, re-bedding the apex ridge, and weatherproofing the whole gable so it stands up to the weather. Working at height on the most exposed part of the building, we make sure everything is properly fixed, pointed and sealed before we leave.

Common Questions

What's the difference between the apex, gable and verge?

The gable is the triangular end wall of the building, the apex is the point at the top where the two roof slopes meet, and the verge is the edge of the roof along the gable. All three are exposed to the weather and often need attention together.

Why is water getting in at the gable end?

Common causes are cracked or missing pointing at the apex, loose verge tiles, failed bargeboards, or porous gable masonry. We trace the exact cause and repair it rather than just sealing over the symptom.

Can you dry-fix the verge so it stops coming loose?

Yes - like dry ridges, modern dry-verge systems mechanically clip each tile at the gable edge, so there is no mortar to crack and the verge stays secure in high winds.
